Goodbye Graffiti

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Toronto has been dealing with a large crackdown on graffiti ever since Rob Ford was elected mayor. It seems to be one of the most talked about topics as of recent, due to Mayor Rob Ford’s plan to eliminate graffiti from Toronto. This new mini-documentary titled “Goodbye Graffiti” by Ryerson Radio and Television Arts student, Char Loro (along with Dylan McFadyen and Eric Kupp) gets the perspective and opinions from the graffiti writers.

Good, just the kick in the ass toronto graff needs, hopefully they buff a bunch of legal walls so the real bombing cats can get their shine

ya, i really don’t see the downside of this. legal wall bitch’s are the only ones who get shook over the buff (don’t mean too rag on the old heads who no longer bomb but have paid dues here). just means that the names you see after the buff campaign are the names of the heads puttin in work.

sucks for the history, but anyone who has been in this game for a min knows that spots don’t last if you don’t keep em.

Good little doc. The message is pretty clear there that Ford doesn’t give a fuck. Oh well, I deff agree with Revrt above… I think the shit part is that it influences the general public to perceive this sub culture as only black and white, when really as we all know its full colour. Fuck man, they gotta start funding this shit, get programs, w/e the case – If you can’t take the heat, get the fuck out the kitchen, ya know?

where i go to school in our art class we do a “graffiti” lesson. yeah a graffiti lesson! i live in (nova scotia.) so its ok to teach the kids this wonderfull thing but if they want to pursue it then there straight up vandals/criminals? maybe we should stop gym classes so people cant be atheletes? or science classes so people cant find a cure for cancer? they dont want people to be individuals. they want us to know about stuff but not pursue it. the system is trying to make us all droids and graffiti is a rebellion against this. the system is so fucked up…. and thats why i write, im not gonna be a droid!

Well put @ Outsiders. Are you in Halifax or is your school outside of the “city”? I’m curious b/c I don’t think the Art college has “graffiti” friendly course.
