Bruse Interview

What made you decide to write the name Bruce?

Bruse: It’s from some old stoner jokes back when me and some buddies were in high school.

How long have you been painting?

Bruse: um…I’m not sure..i think i got interested around 2000…started walking around catching stupid marker tags maybe a year later…but seriously painting? Not that long…only since DHS started up did I start doing anything serious.before that it was all shitty fills ugly tags and shit..so maybe seriously painting since 2004 or 05? Time flies when your having fun.

What was you main influence in getting you started?

Bruse: I used to walk around the area when i was in high school with a buddy.. We’d be drinking forties in parks or school yards and shit… and my buddies bro was a writer and we’d see shit here and there…I started noticing shit more and more..picked up a fat zig one day and well shit just snowballed from there..Its been downhill since.

What is your favorite surface to paint and why?

Bruse: I dunno I love most anything.. I used to bomb a lot more but I’ve got to many legal bills to pay..conditions, curfews bail and all that jazz…So right now I stick to freights… I really hate legal walls or safe spots where shits gonna get gone over in a minute…Right now I pretty much paint only on freights…Its cool to see your freight benched in a city or something you’ve never been to.

Any Idea how many freights you have running?

Bruse: hahah funny you should ask..a bunch of my crew counts shit.. but I was too lazy to bother..I recently tried to find all the pictures of freights I’ve hit..and I have 112 right now that i have records of..so I’m gonna say 112. not a lot at all.. Koma’s running at 640 or something…Hes got more this year than I’ve ever hit. Kids a beast.

What gets you in the mood to paint?

Bruse: I dunno I just kinda jones for it sometime…like I’ll work 40 hours a week..then my night I’ll just go and paint..sometimes I want to. sometimes i don’t have anything else to do or someone will give me a call and ask if I wanna paint..i dunno different reasons at different times…the best is when I draw up a sketch that I really like and cant wait to go out and paint it….but overall its my crew that gets me motivated to paint..best kids ever

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you while you were out painting?

Bruse: I dunno getting booked I spouse? I’ve seen fucked up shit. Seen cabbie fights with big ass mag lights… seen some freaks walking down the tracks butt fuck naked… one time we were in this pretty baited out yard..these cops show up a few lines down…we bolt…Sure meanwhiles an idiot talking on his cell phone…doesn’t realize were running.. so I have to run back and get him…and then we run across in 6 lane highway in full daylight…shit was hectic..and of course theres all the crazy homeless people…drunk idiots…junkies..people asking if you wanna shoot up with them..its cool..good life experiences.

Bruse: Yeah all of DHS… Bfor, Sure, Rage, Koma, Dre, Cesu, Eyes, Lity, Jerk, Home and all the SYW boys..and all the good people I’ve run into along the way.
