banksy orgami crane

A new Banksy piece popped up yesterday by a river in the UK. The piece features a detailed stencil of a Origami Crane holding a fish. It has even been speculated that the new piece might hint that Banksy might be expecting a new born.

If you are looking at symbolism….
The Crane:The Crane is legendary in China for being the prince of all feathered creature on earth. Next to the Phoenix (also listed on this page), the Crane is the most favored all Chinese bird symbols. The Crane is the ancient symbol for longevity because of its exceptionally long life span. In many legends, the spirits ride on cranes, which are also said to bear the souls of the departed to the heavens.
    The goldfish:
The gold fish brings good luck in the form of tranquility, wisdom and long life. It is one among the eight sacred symbols of the Buddha where they represent fertility, abundance and harmony with the flow of life. Ancient Greeks believed goldfish enhanced good luck in marriage and relationships. In ancient Egypt goldfish were kept in the house as a lucky omen for the family and helped cheer up domestic situations.

I live just near this spot in Lyme Regis. My earliest photo of it (not on my website) is 31 January 2012. It appeared overnight but was completed during a second night. Unfortunately the clump of reeds were removed during a river cleaning exercise. No doubt they will grow back.
