Manr Goes Over A Banksy In Toronto

Earlier this week paintings from the stencil artist Banksy started popping up around the city of Toronto. Recently one of Banksy’s paintings was covered up by the Toronto graffiti writer Manr. This is a before and after shot of the painting.

Don’t hate on Manr too much though. Later in life he will probably get a few women pregnant, leave his children, never make more than minimum wage washing dishes in the back of a Gabby’s, and finally die in an alley as his last attempt to be seen in the world.
I remember when I learned how to draw bubble letters in Grade 4!! This douche should stick to making school dance posters and leave graffiti to the real artists.
They both look like crap…toy writer going over a gimmicky douche-bag. Screw Banksy, if someone did a throwie that was good over that i’d say more power to them, unfortunately it sucks…but so does banksy, he’s not a graf writer, he’s a homo
If anyone knows anything about Bombing, Real bombers fucking hate stencils, and stencils take no talent. Those bubble letters take practice to get good at, any kid can cut a stencil and push a spray can top down, no talent (Logan Hicks exempt), if Banksy was real he’d go back and fix it if it really mattered, but half his shit is just a one thought experience and not that great. I’d rather look at bubble letter and hand styles all day instead of another half-baked stencil.
Banksy’s played out, stencils are played out, lets make new more progressive shit happen.
I have to disagree with you (Shawn B). Stencils take a lot of work to create. There is talent there. Good call on Logan Hicks, he’s sick.

Maybe he didn’t think it was a banksy? Maybe banksy capped a manr somewhere? Maybe he just wants attention, whatever it is, going over an illegal stencil with an illegal fill is still illegal. The downside is Manr will lose respect by some.

It’s a direct shot at banksy, lots of writers are sick of how mainstream artfags are getting hardons for him these days. Banksys art has been done before, he just has a horseshoe up his ass and yuppies that will fork thousands to subsidize his travels. His stuff is “graffiti” just like everyone elses, so quit whining when someone caps it.
WTF was the point of that?? I say; don’t go over other graff unless it is toy, or if there’s no more room to paint. Go bomb HARD the areas that should have graff, but buff it constantly… I saw on the news today that a stencil by Banksy got buffed on a wall by some art hating losers. Go bomb those areas save your paint for that!!!!

sellerrrrrrrrr you are right, Manr is up quite a bit in Toronto but that’s it. No one gives a shit if he paints a wall. Banksy on the other hand is world famous. People are stealing his walls because they are worth so much. I don’t see anyone going around taking Manr walls to sell them.

Unfortunately, It is common for a great piece of street art (there’s a giant mural on the side of a building on mccaul that has also been tagged), to be completely ruined by taggers. I mean, it’s one thing to tag at all, but to tag on someone else’s hard work, just makes both the street art critics AND appreciators dislike you more. Taggers make the city uglier, and I wish it wasn’t true, but it is.
Although, to be fair, street art is what it is. It’s a free domain and if no one else’s work is safe, why should Banksy’s be more sacred? I only feel this way because I am a fan of his work and would have been so incredibly excited to see those works in my city (I nearly screamed in glee when I saw one of his works in L.A.).
Anyway, long story short this sucks and I would probably smack MANR upside the head for being a dolt.

MANR is a great writer, and those “bubble letters” are a throwup. Y’all uneducated techno-nerds hiding behind your screens have so much to say and have nothing to show for it. MANR was burning Banksy, because, in my opinion (and I can only speculate), Banksy has been known to paint over other writers and diss their spots. It’s all fair in the Graf game (thowups go over tags, pieces go over throwups, etc), and it doesn’t make one “weak” by going over another. It’s a disposible art form and street culture. On top of that, Banksy was just trying to promote his film (which I felt was great) and MANR is promoting himself.
While the Banksy piece is cool and hip and probably worth a million dollars in a gallery, and it’s sad to see it go, MANR is burning him because he is on MANRs turf. I say as long as there’s flicks, then it’s all game.

His straights and other throws I’ve seen are alright, but this one here I’m looking at over this Bansky shit is not his best stuff….but….id rather see that than what’s underneath it fo’sho

Manrs seems to have accomplished what he set out to do, gain a little fame. Sometimes you get capped banksy shouldnt be an exemption because art critics and gallery owners want to pay millions of dollars for his repetative stencil work. But this is a weak throwie

Many people do stencils like Banksy does so Manr might not known it was him. But actually who cares. The walls are always changing. So banksy got capped big shit. both are good artists. there is nothing wrong with a little diss. this stuff goes on all the time in the graffiti world. its just what happens in the street art world, you cant just leave a spot untouched forever, if it wasnt manr, it wouldve been another bomber or the city. they probably dont even care at all about this. both of them hit spots all over and just one diss? its not like you cannot go over banksy at all. i bet he doesnt care cause he has so many stencils. and that response from banksy, its probably just messing with manr and if banksy was serious about it, the guy should learn something about graffiti. one more thing, both of these street art forms take a long time to master, those are not just bubble letters, he put his own style/twist to it. making a clean throw does take a long time to master and for stencils, they also take alot of skill to do. both creative street art. and yes, there are graff artists that only bomb. there is nothing wrong with just bombing. some people only bombed and are very famous.
