Retna Mural Dissed on Santa Monica Blvd

So here’s the story behind this mural. The artists Retna and Rabi were commissioned by the owner of Susy’s Meat Market to paint the piece of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Weeks later someone had splatter red paint over the Mayor’s face and later spray-painted “vendido” on his left collar, which was eventually covered over with white paint. The artist Rabi who painted Mayor Villaraigosa was first disappointed to see the red paint splattered on his work. Now he says, “but then I started to like it even more, it’s become more than another mural — it’s now a statement and an expression of the public, a movement if you will.”

Rabi has now gone back with his own red paint and added “Like Sand In The Wind,” the artist wrote, with a tag of “The Fear.”
